In Mac OS X El Capitan, Apple added SIP (System Integrity Protection), previously referred to as rootless mode in the beta releases. SIP is essentially just a block on editing the /System
, /sbin
, and /usr
directories (with the exception of the /usr/local
subdirectory).
It is recommend keeping SIP enabled whenever possible, so enable it again after you have finished making changes, unless an application you’re trying to run requires it permanently disabled.
